We analyzed GDP trajectories across 16 Malaysian states, examining growth rates, sectoral contributions, and economic drivers. Our research revealed that Selangor and Kuala Lumpur represent 38% of national GDP, while East Malaysian states show faster growth rates despite smaller absolute output.
This 8-month research project mapped infrastructure gaps, resource utilization patterns, and investment barriers across Sabah and Sarawak. We identified that while these states hold 40% of Malaysia’s land area and significant mineral resources, infrastructure investment lags peninsular states by roughly 2.5 times per capita.
We evaluated Malaysia’s fiscal transfer system, analyzing how federal allocations reach state governments through Revenue and General Grants. Our findings showed that per-capita transfers vary by 45% across states, with implications for regional development equity and corridor investment priorities.
We assessed the performance of Malaysia’s three major economic corridors—Northern, Eastern, and Southern—measuring investment flows, employment creation, and sectoral growth. The research documented that ECER attracted RM 21.7 billion in committed investments, though execution rates varied significantly by state and corridor segment.
